Climate Equipment Hire

Sourcing Climate Equipment

There is now a large choice of climate control equipment available to hire or buy to control the climate and temperature in a room at home or at work.

The traditional method of creating a comfortable living and working environment has been through the use of powerful electric cooling fans.

Powered by electric a fan can be desk mounted, pedestal mounted, floor mounted, or also located on the ceiling creating a cool downdraft of cold air when in use.  Electric fans are manufactured in different sizes and specifications dependant on their intended use. This is whether they are to be used in a domestic home or an industrial or commercial environment such as a retail shop, office, warehouse, or even a factory.

Becoming more popular all the time is the use of an air conditioner. As with a cooling fan an air conditioner is powered by standard mains electric and can be purchased or hired in different sizes and specifications.

Most portable units only require an opening window or door to allow hot air to escape from the unit. This is normally through a flexible pipe like can be seen on air movers and some non condensing tumble dryers. Most air conditioner units have a variable temperature control to set the cool air created to the required level. Standard models usually can produce cold air as low as 18 degrees centrigrade (depending on the conditions the unit is sited in).

The majority of portable air conditioners are quiet running with only the units blower fan being noticeable. The fan fitted normally has an adjustable facia plate to allow cold air to be directed to either personnel or equipment providing an ideal climate.

Industrial air conditioners can work in a different way to home or office units. It is typical for an industrial unit to be what is correctly known as a spot cooler or evaporative cooler. This works by passing air over a water supply (normally a tray or grille), the water then evaporates and in doing so is cooled. The cold air then is blown out of the units vents or cooling pipes in the required direction.

The vents (or pipes if fitted) on an industrial air conditioner are normally adjustable for direction as well as height giving control and providing cool spots or areas to work in, this why they are commonly referred to as a moving spot cooler unit.

Clearing Of Overgrown Gardens

Machinery For Clearing Overgrown Gardens

A wide range of machinery is available for clearing up and the tidying of overgrown garden areas. Whether the work entails the cutting and removal of heavy thatch and weeds, or just cutting overgrown lawns and grassed areas, there is a powered electric or petrol machine which can make the job easier.

For most home owners the task of clearing an overgrown garden is one which only needs doing every so often, normally when moving into a new property or if the garden has had to be neglected for one reason or another.

For these odd occasions it is uneconomical to buy sufficient gardening equipment to complete the neccessary work. Typical garden machinery which may be needed are a heavy duty petrol lawn mower, a petrol brush cutter (commercial type of grass strimmer), a powerful hedge trimmer (or cutter), and a pressure washer.

All of these items of gardening equipment can be hired from a specialist tool hire outlet and at an affordable price for the short period of time it will be needed.

The hire of garden tools also eliminates maintenance and repair costs which are a necessity with the ownership of petrol powered equipment.

Outdoor Building Construction

Construction Of Outdoor Buildings

The construction of any outdoor building or structure requires a great deal of time and effort with regards to planning and preparation before any building work can commence.

At the outset it is important to obtain the help and advice of industry professionals especially as regards surveying, and drawing up the necessary plans which are needed. The employment of an architect can make work easier when it comes to these requirements. An architect will have access to a wide choice of professionals who will survey the site in question, determining accurate information on underground power cables and supplies, drainage, telephone cables, utility pipelines, as well as the general site structure under and above ground level.  Soil samples can be extracted to answer questions as to the structure of the ground itself, it could be built up of mainly clay, sandstone, or any other minerals or compounds.

Access roads and paths to the proposed building need to be taken into account – and decisions made as to their suitability with regards to the use and positioning of the new building.

Often overlooked is the landscaping which is to surround the property and its overall site area. If the gardens, paths, and flower borders are included in the design from the beginning a more natural end result will be achieved. Again a professional landscaper can be sourced through any reputable and qualified architect.

The choice of builders or trademen to undertake the build is critical to achieve the required target budget and maintain consistent quality of workmanship. Depending on the value of the project an architect may choose to either recommend a particular company or tender amongst several they regularly deal with.

For large construction projects a quantity surveyor may be appointed to draw up costings for bricks, steelwork, concrete, aggregates, and timber components. At an added cost a quantity surveyor can provide a security blanket to an otherwise open ended project.

Planning Permission And Building Regulations:

The location, size, and type of building will determine whether planning permission or building regs approval is required. In the Uk almost certainly both of these will be needed for any new build of a commercial or residential building. Certain types of outdoor buildings and structures may come outside these requirements, most notably timber framed small structures and buildings such as garages, conservatories, and similar structures.

In all cases it is recommended to contact your local planning dept to ask the advice of the areas planning officer. (If an architect has be appointed they will do this work for you on your behalf).

Fire Regulations:

This is another task which cannot be taken on lightly. The current fire regulations need to be taken into account and adhered to with regards to the construction of a new building. Changed and updated regularly the fire regs determine the necessary steps and requirements which the new building must employ during its construction. The type of use will dictate different features which are necessary. For example the requirement will be different for a building to be used for catering purposes as opposed to one being built for residential use.

This could be explained in a different way with the simple breakdown of whether the building is for business use or for use as a normal family home. Business premises may dictate storage or use of machinery which may present a fire risk – hence the building needs to be constructed in a different way to accomodate this.

Groundwork:

The ground on the building site will need to be excavated for adequate concrete footings to be poured, along with steel reinforcements where necessary. Prior to excavation the surface layers of the site need to be stripped of all vegetation and other general debris. If the site has existing lawned areas this can be cut using a suitable petrol lawnmower prior to further work being carried out. The next stage would require the use of possibly a mini digger or other powered machinery to excavate and remove the soil down to the required foundation depth.

Concrete:

The foundations typically consist of concrete reinforced with steel rebar sections and possibly steel or concrete rsj’s and lintels at specific points. Different specifications of concrete can be puchased to suit different applications and types of building foundations. The concrete mix may include additives to allow a fast setting as well as fibres to improve its strength. For the construction of medium and large buildings it will be cost effective to purchase concrete from one of the main suppliers that deliver “mixed and ready to use concrete” direct to site. For small projects concrete can be purchased in “dry packaged” form for you to mix yourself with the aid of a suitable concrete mixer. These can be either purchased or rented from a suitable tool hire shop.

Brickwork:

The brickwork forms an important part on any new building. Its purpose is two fold. To provide strength in the overall structure of the building as well as provide an aesthetic appearance in relation to other buildings and structures in the general area. On anything other than a small project it is preferable to use the services of an experienced and time served brick layer. Brick laying is a skill in itself and this is one area which should not be skimped on when preparing overall budgets for the construction project.

Stihl Forestry Equipment

Stihl Chainsaws And Brushcutters

New for 2009 are the latest range of  ”New Generation” Chainsaws and petrol Brushcutters.

To comply with the latest european emission regulations Stihl have taken a close look at their two stroke petrol engined range of chainsaws, brushcutters, and other forestry and landscaping  equipment.

In their range of high quality chainsaws a selection of models have received a makeover including their price entry level models.  Fitting into this category are the popular MS170 chainsaw and the FS38 brushcutter – line strimmer.

Replacing these models are the new improved Stihl MS171 and FS40 models.  Featuring a stratified ignition system both these units produce a lower level of exhaust emissions and enjoy reduced fuel consumptions. Attention has also been given to the Stihl MS171 Chainsaw to reduce operator vibration figures to allow longer working and cutting performance.

Common Features:

New two stroke petrol engines are fitted to the the MS171 and FS40 brushcutter units. The design of these engines is focused on providing improved cutting performance as well as reduced emissions with regards to noise and exhaust fumes.  Both units benfit from a new design of air filtration as well as “clean burn” technology to meet the required standards and retain their positions as the brand leaders for brush cutter and petrol chainsaws.

Chainsaw Safety:

Operator Safety When Using A Stihl Chainsaw

For safe use of a chainsaw the operator should be fit – both mentally and physically. Any people with a disability opting to use a chainsaw, whether it be an electric or petrol version should bear in mind that the tasks undertaken may need to be restricted. This is especially the case if the operator has any of the following conditions:

  • Poor physical strength
  • Reduced vision
  • Reduced alertness
  • Restriction of mobility

In addition any gardeners or forestry workers using a chainsaw in the course of their employment should notify their employer if they are taking prescribed medicine.

Types Of Chainsaws:

There are two types of common professional chainsaws. These are specialist “top handled – or single handle” type saws designed for tree surgery by competent and trained arborists, and “rear handled – conventional” type chain saws.

Conventional chainsaws have the rear handle projecting from the back of the saw and are designed to be used with both hands. This type of saw can be either electric powered or petrol powered – each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Conventional chain saws can be fitted with different sized bars to accomodate different cutting chain lengths. As a general guide the shortest bar should be fitted with matching chain loop to undertake the job in hand.

The majority of saws in the Stihl chainsaw range fall into this category – catering for professional forestry workers, tree surgeons, and gardeners.  Both electric and petrol versions are manufactured and in a wide choice of sizes, power outputs, and cutting capabilities.

Equipment For Food Festivals

Food festivals are amongst the largest events held in the Uk  featuring a celebration of local food and drink.

Typically a food festival includes a wide selection of demonstrations and events with activities including cooking demonstrations, drinks and wine tasting sessions, themed meals, cookery workshops, farmers market and produce sales, and also the demonstration and sales of goods such as catering equipment.

The catering equipment available is usually tailored to the individual event and may feature products such as stoves, hot cupboards, bain maries, fridges, stoves and the like.

General kitchen ware is normally also promoted including storage solutions, cutlery, and crockery lines.

As with other exhibitions a lot of pre – planning goes into each festival hosted with consideration given as to what equipment will be required to make it a success.

Power Generation

If the festival is to be held outdoors – perhaps in one or more marquees then a suitable large power output generator will be needed. This needs to be able to power all lighting, sound systems, and any power take off points which are needed for exhibitors. If any exhibitors also need electric power for electronic equipment such as a computer or point of sale terminal, then the generator chosen needs to have a surge protection feature to prevent damage caused by its power fluctuation surges.

Stand Furniture

Traditionally any exhibitor will display their products or perform demonstrations on a display stand fitted out with appropriate furniture. This usually takes the form of several tables and chairs or a counter type unit fitted with a stove or some form of cooking unit.

Trestle type tables form the bulk of furniture hired for exhibition use as they are easy to transport, relatively light in weight, and also affordable. Available in different sizes and shapes this type of furniture can be adapted for most venues whether needed indoor or outside.

Suitable chairs could be either basic folding seats or if a greater image is required – banquet chairs could be used instead, with colour themed seat pads.

Gardening Equipment

Essential Gardening Equipment

Good garden maintenance relies not just on the natural elements such as water, light, and minerals – but also regular and timed work undertaken by the homeowner or gardener.

To make the neccessary work easier there are a wide range of gardening tools and equipment which can be either hired or purchased. The large choice includes equipment such as electric and petrol lawnmowers, portable line trimmer and brushcutter units, hedgetrimmers and hedgecutters, rotavators, shredders, and chainsaws to name just a few.

For the perfect garden nothing can replace a beautiful looking lawn with either traditional or contemporary borders in its design. A lawn however requires a large amount of maintenance especially during the Uk growing season of spring through to late summer. During this period regular lawn maintenance takes the form of watering and feeding as well as frequent cutting. Watering can be done by timed watering using a hosepipe connected to a sprinkler. The frequency of this needs to be adjusted depending on weather conditions and the moisture of the grass itself.

Grass Feeding:: This can be either a small or large job depending on the size of the lawn itself. Small to medium sized lawns can be fed using either a liquid feed applied using a sprayer, or alternatively a granular type food applied by using a wheeled lawn feeder.

The frequent cutting of the lawn however will require the use of a suitable lawnmower. The size and power of the chosen unit will depend on the size of the lawn and also its shape, as well as the type of grass. If the lawn is perfectly flat and has little traffic (children and pets) a cylinder type lawnmower is the best option. This type of mower uses a cylinder blade which rotates at very high speed and allows very close cutting. This creates a manicured type appearance with a beautiful professional look to it.

If the lawn in the garden is uneven or has banked areas thought should be given to the hire or purchase of a hover type mower. This design of lawnmowing equipment features the mower itself which “floats” on a cushion of air. This allows it to cut grass without scalping the lawn in the areas where it is not level.

The majority of households and gardens in the Uk have a lawn in their gardens which has a combination of these features – they have flat areas, uneven sections, and also other problems such as drain covers, manholes, edging stones, paths, and the like. In gardens such as this the best type of lawnmower to use would be a rotary type fitted with a metal blade.

Powered by either an electric motor or a petrol engine this type of mower is traditionally fitted with height adjustable wheels and on some models also a rear roller. In nearly all cases a grass collection bag or box is also fitted.

A very popular brand of machine choice for the keen gardener that wants their lawn to look the best is the honda range of lawnmowers, especially their range of push and self propelled models. Powered by extemely quiet and easy to start four stroke petrol engines – honda lawnmowers are efficient, easy to use, and manufactured to the highest of standards.

Different sizes and specifications are in the honda range with a model suitable for all sizes of lawned areas. Their comprehensive range includes machines for the homeowner as well as models specifically for professional gardeners and tradesmen. Their honda izy range in particular is aimed at the homeowner who requires an affordable reliable lawnmower, which offers great performance, is easy to start and use, and at the same time is manufactured to a high quality and with a service back up with regards to routine maintenance and spare parts availability. This in particular is important especially when a new cutting blade or air filter is required.

Other Gardening Equipment:: Powered gardening equipment makes tasks and work in the garden easier especially on jobs such as  hedgecutting, tree pruning and the like.

Tree cutting and pruning work in particular should be undertaken with care especially if a chainsaw is to be used. A chainsaw can be a dangerous tool in the wrong hands or if the operator is not familiar with its features and controls. Chainsaws can be powered as with lawnmowers by either an electric motor or a petrol engine, and with different bar sizes to allow cutting of different sizes of branches and tree trunks.

As with all powered gardening equipment different brands are available and at different selling prices. Off all the brands of chainsaws available to buy the most renowned brand is the range manufactured by stihl. Their model choice is the largest of all and there is a chainsaw to suit every application or need. From a small compact and light weight model such as the stihl ms170 and ms171 through to large forestry units like the ms880 – the choice is endless.

Sound Systems::

Quality music is a necessity at any wedding so the bride and groom and their guests can enjoy the day and evening to the full with a totally enjoyable occasion. Whether it is planned to hire a band or alternatively a DJ, the sound system they employ needs to be suitable for the venue it is to be sited in. Various specifications of amplifiers and equipment is available depending on the budget available and the size of the venue room or building.

Quality of sound is more important than loudness - guests attending the wedding need to be able to mix with each other and talk without having to shout over the music being played.

Catering Equipment::

Cleaning Carpets Hints, Tips And Methods

Keeping Carpets Clean

The most important tip to keeping your carpet and furnishings looking good is the regular vacuuming every few days using a powerful vacuum cleaner. This will remove surface dirt and grit which otherwise will pass down through the fibres of the carpet and in doing so will wear away the strands and fibres causing the carpet to lose its appearance.

Soil and dirt can damage these fibres permanently if allowed to remain in the pile and should be removed as often as possible by the vacuum process. This is the only method to prevent fibre abrasion, other than limiting the amount of traffic that the flooring receives.

An added bonus of regular vacuum cleaning of carpets is it will reduce the amount of dust mites present which can also help control allergies.

Areas in the home or workplace that receive the most traffic, such as hallways, stairs and porches / entrances should be cleaned more regularly. In these high traffic areas it is recommended to vacuum the entire carpet a minimum of at least twice per week for the best results.

Carpet Cleaning Tip:

Another tip for keeping your carpets looking good is to use floor mats where ever possible to your advantage. Floor and door entrance mats are easily cleaned, are inexpensive to buy, and much cheaper to replace than a new carpets. Used in areas of heavy traffic such as doorways and the main entrances to your home they can have a big impact on the reduction of soiling and wear and tear on carpeting.

Long floor mats can be bought cheapily for use in halls and on landings.

Tips On Removing Stains:

When the inevitable happens and drink, food, or anything else is spilled on the carpet the important think to remember is to attack the stain speedily. The fast treatment of any spillage on a carpet (especially silk or wool) can prevent a stain occurring. Before instantly reaching for chemicals and detergents it is important to establish what has been spilled and then choose the correct product, or equipment to treat it. The best solution would be to have at hand a carpet cleaning machine which utilises water extraction. This type of carpet cleaner uses mild detergents to wash and remove stains from carpeting but also extracts the majority of the water and dirty solution afterwards. This allows the carpets to dry out faster but more importantly removes the dirt and soiling from the carpet.

Off the shelf carpet cleaning products and sprays such as can be purchased from supermarkets and DIY stores lack this method of cleaning. With no extraction method the dirty cleaning solution has to remain in the carpet and hence the flooring can never look as good as when it was new.

Purchasing Or Hiring Cleaning Equipment:

Although the cost to buy cleaning equipment has reduced over the last few years a professional machine can cost several hundred pounds to buy. Consideration has to be given as to how often the flooring needs to be cleaned and whether it is more cost effective to hire a carpet cleaner in preference to purchasing such a unit.

When hiring a carpet cleaner it is important to ensure sufficient quantities of cleaning detergents are purchased to allow full and effective of all neccessary floor areas which need addressing.

This type of equipment can be rented from local tool hire shops.
