Steel Erection Equipment

When undertaking work and construction projects using steel, it is important to use the correct equipment to ensure safety, speed of erection, and completion to the required specifications and budgets.

One of the best ways to ensure everything goes to plan is through the use of the correct equipment and having the job completed by fully trained and experienced staff.

Although steel and other metals are relatively easy to work with, care has to be taken especially with regards to the weights and working heights which steel components may be required to be assembled at erected at.  Most metals can be easily cut to size through the use of modern power tools and metal cutting saws such as the stihl ts410 disc cutter, but lifting or lowering sections of constructional steel necessitates more specialist equipment.

What is required to safetly complete such a job is the use of specialist lifting and lowering kit which carries a swl in excess of the weight in hand, and which also can be used with ease and in the working area needed.

Common types of lifting gear include: Chain Blocks and Hoists, Genie Super Lifts, Girder Trolleys and Clamps, as well as conventional  Web Slings and Wire Rope.

If the metal work to be erected requires fixing in place after it is moved to the correct location consideration needs to be given as to the best method to achieve this and a work plan implemented. Traditionally the best method would be by the use of a portable engine driven welder. This is ideal if the metal work is be permanently fixed in place. Another option is through traditional metal fixing bolts and nuts.

A professional steel erector or fabricator will probably use a combination of both types of fixing depending on the scale of work involved and the evvironment the structure is to be based in.
