WD40 Spray Oil
Penetrating – Spray Oil
WD40 is perhaps the worlds most famous and popular light penetrating oil. Unlike conventional oils and lubricants WD 40 also has many other uses around the home and workplace.
Popular Uses Of WD40:
Protecting metal, cars, motorcycles, and machinery from dirt, corrosion, and moisture.
Loosening and removing rust and surface corrosion.
Displacing Moisture.
Reaching under dirt and grease, including adhesives and glues.
Maintenance use in factories, farm equipment, and heavy duty machinery.
The real key as to how WD40 works in it’s ability to displace moisture – especially on metal to metal working parts as found on agricultural and farm working machinery such as electric and petrol chainsaws.
Machinery used on farms live a hard life due to the tough environmental conditions they have to perform in. The use of a preventive maintenace spray such as wd40 can make all the difference in getting that important job done in time, saving money on potential breakdowns and costly repair bills.
An alternative to WD40 is the spray oil sold under the name of GT85. Although not as popular as wd40 GT85 has several properties which make it a good choice. One of these is the inclusion of teflon in its chemical formula content. GT85 is also CFC exempt making it environmently friendly. For any application where you require a non -sticky type lubricant GT85 is the ideal product to use.
Lawnmowers, Hedgetrimmers, and all other gardening equipment will benefit by a protective spray of either wd40 or gt85. Cutting blades will remain clean and sharp as well as free from rust and corrosion.
Petrol engines can be protected against the ingress of water and moisture especially around electrical connections, switchgear, and spark plugs.
Bicycles (mountain bikes, road bikes, tourers, childrens, adults, racing bikes) and motor cycles can all be protected against damage and corrosion by the use occasionally of either of these products. You can insure your motorcycle against costly damage by the protective qualities that they both provide.
Both WD40 and GT85 can be purchased from your local tool and equipment rental shop.

Tips For Using A Floor Sander
Tips On Using A Heavy Duty Floor Sanding Machine
Preparation: Before you hire the machines spend some time counter sinking any nails or screws that are present and carry out any repairs that might be necessary to make the floorboards sound.
Filling Gaps: For small gaps a product can be purchased called ‘Mix and Fill‘. This is a purpose designed DIY product for filling gaps and holes in woodwork and timber furniture such as banqueting chairs. You use some of the sawdust and mix the compound into a stiff paste. When the gaps and any holes are filled and the product is set, it can be sanded with the colour of the boards matching the original wood. If the boards are sound this mix and fill type filler can also be used for restoring the finish to timber damaged by woodworm and light rot.
Methodology: Use the main drum floor sander first to do the bulk of the surface area working with the grain of the wood. On very uneven and unlevel floors you can sand diagonally first to rapidly level the floor, and then carry out the finishing work.
Using Different Grades Of Sandpaper: There are several different grades of sanding paper (course through to fine). Work down through the grades removing any suface marks or imperfections with the overall aim being to get a good finish. When hiring a floor sander you can purchase (on sale or return)as many sheets as you wish - ensure you obtain enough to complete the job. Because these are on sale or return you simply use what you want and return any unused ones.
Final Finishing: Finish by doing the edges blending in the sanding marks.
It’s very important to vac all the dust up. Use a crevice tool on your vacuum to get all the dust from the joints. A tacky duster is the best way to remove final traces of dust.
On softwood 3 coats of floor finish will be required. We sell both water and spirit base finishes in matt or gloss.
Safety Issues – Precautions For Chainsaw Use
Safety Precautions To be Advised When Using a Chainsaw
Outline Warning: As an electric or petrol chainsaw operates at a very high speed and with a very sharp cutting chain blade special safety precautions should be taken in addition to all of those that normally apply if the operator was working with a hand saw or other manual tool such as a felling axe.
Operating Instructions: Prior to starting logging work or cutting any trees, saplings or wood it is important that the machines instruction handbook is fully read and it’s contents understood before starting to use the chainsaw. This is especially so for the saws first use. The operating book for the particular model of chainsaw purchase should be kept in a safe storage place for future reference.
Prevention Of Personal Injury: It goes without saying that non observance of the safety instructions and precautions in the chainsaws handbook could result in serious or even fatal injury to the tools operator.
General Precautions: It is recommended and advised that the machines operator observes all local safety regulations, standards, and requirements with regards to the operation and useage of any electric or petrol chainsaw.
Inexperienced Chainsaw Users: For users who have never operated or used a chain saw before it is important to ensure that your local stihl chainsaw dealer explains the operating controls and advises you on your individual saws features, benefits, operating controls, and sawing capabilities. It is wise where required to also attend a chainsaw course relevant to your needs.
Bystanders: At and around the area the saw is to be used in a safety cordon should be made ensuring any bystanders, animals, or children are a safe distance away from where the cutting is being carried out. This is to prevent any possible injury as well as distraction to the tree surgeon or person who is operating the chainsaw.
Between Cutting Tasks: Between felling trees, landscaping, or general cutting with the chain saw the tool should be switched off (using the main ignition switch as well as the units chainbrake) so it does not endanger others, and it is secured against any unauthorized use. It is important to remember that the individual chainsaw user is responsible for any accident risks to both third parties as well as any property damage caused.
Renting Or Loaning A Chainsaw: For the individual and corporate owner it is important that consideration is given before the lend or rental of a chainsaw is undertaken. Be sure that anyone who will be using the saw fully understands the operator manual and safety issues / precautions associated with its use and operation. Whether the unit is to be operated by a gardener, professional landscaper, tree surgeon, or a DIY enthusiast – it is important that the individual is rested, in good health physical condition to operate this type of power tool.
Users Fitted With Pacemakers: Certain models of stihl chainsaws (and other brands) employ an ignition unit that creates an electromagnetic field of low intensity when the engine is running. To reduce any risk of possible injury operators fitted with a pacemaker need to consult their doctor / physician before operating a chainsaw.
Safe Operation Tips: For safe operation of a chain saw do not start or operate the tool whilst under the influence of any substance or medication such as drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep etc. Do not use any powertool if your vision, dexterity, or judgement is impaired.
Possible injuries can be also be prevented by not undertaking felling and cutting work in poor weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind. An electric chainsaw should only ever be used in perfect dry weather conditions because of the risk of operator electric shock.
Useage Of A Chainsaw: With the exception of special fire rescue and stone cutting diamond bladed chainsaws this type of tool should only be used for cutting wood and wooden objects. Athough one of these pieces of equipment can be used for cutting up for example an old chair or table they really are better suited for sawing and felling live timber – trees, greenery, logs, bushes etc.
Can A Chainsaw Be Used For Any Other Purpose?: An electric or petrol chainsaw should not be used for any other purpose as this may result in an accident or costly damage to the tool. No attempts should also be made to modify, adapt, or change the characteristics of a chainsaw since this could be dangerous with serious personal injury implications.
What Accessories Should Be Used?: When replacing the units chain blade loop, chain bar (guide bar) drive sprocket, or other accessory it is recommended that an original equipment (oem) item is purchased. Using the manufacturers recommended accessory (stihl, makita, ryobi) ensures the standard of quality, safety, and performance is maintained. If unsure it is advised you ask your local tool dealer for help and advice. In particular stihl chainsaws are manufactured to the highest of standards and you will want to retain this as well as their all round performance and reliability. The characteristics of their replacent parts and accessories are designed to match each of their models to meet performance requirements.
PPE And Protective Clothing: It is necessary to wear the correct protective clothing and safety equipment prior to working with this type of saw. The safety clothing used must be sturdy but allow complete freedom of movement for the user. Tight snug fitting chainsaw protection clothing should be used with cut and saw resistant inserts. It is important to not wear any loose fitting clothing garments. This includes but is not limited to: loose jackets, scarves, belts, jewellery, or any other item that possibly could prevent movement and also become entangled with the saw itself, its cutting chain, timber being sawn, or make contact with the units motor, engine, or exhaust silencer.
Safety Boots – Shoes- Protective Footwear: Always wear approved and cut resistant protective footwear. Most reputable brands will incorporate non slip soles and offer a wide range of protection against possible injury. High quality safety boots available are available from most major garden equipment brands eg: stihl concept rubber boots, comfort boots, standard, and their special options.
Safety Chainsaw Helmets – Hats: To prevent any possible injury from overhead branches and objects a safety helmet must be worn. Also required are safety glasses / goggles or an appropriate visor / faceshield.
Hearing Protection: A chainsaw generate a lot of noise in use (especially two stroke petrol saws). Appropriate ear / hearing protection is required by the wearing of ear plugs or ear defenders.
Safety Gloves – Hand Protection: Safety gloves with cut and tear resistant properties must be worn when using a power saw. Popular types include either leather or alternatively nylon gloves manufactured with tear resistant fabric inserts.
Chain Saw Transportation: Before transporting or carrying a chainsaw the units chain brake should be engaged and the units scabbard (blade cover) fitted. If the unit is a petrol version (two or four stroke) the engine should also be stopped. The tool should be carried with it’s front handle with the guide bar pointing to the rear. It is important to ensure the hot exhaust silencer is kept a reasonable distance from the operators body to prevent any possible burns.
Transporting In A Vehicle: If you are transporting your saw in a vehicle ensure the unit is properly secured to prevent the machine upturning with possible petrol / fuel spillage, and damage.
Fueling Of The Unit: When filling your saw with fuel take great care – petrol / gasoline is extremely flammable. Keep the saw and fuel clear of any naked flames, fire, or heat sources. Ensure no one is allowed to smoke nearby or in the surrounding work area. The engine on the chainsaw must be stopped before refilling the unit with new fuel. It is recommended as a precaution to open the units fuel filler cap slowly to allow any pressure build up to escape. The saw should be filled in a well ventilated area, outdoors. Any petrol or fuel spilled should be cleaned up immediately. If fuel should also be spilled on any clothing the saw should not be used until changed. In addition on any petrol chainsaws time should be allowed for the engine and exhaust components to cool down. This is to prevent any possible fire if the fuel should overflow from the units tank / filler and make contact.
Different makes and models of chainsaws have different types and styles of fuel filler caps, Most however have some form of locking system to prevent unintended opening.
Installing Strip Wood Pannelling
Mark out and cut with a suitable saw the required quantity of wooden boards to length. When this task has been completed sand all the boards before attatching them to the chosen wall.
Using the grooved edge of the first board – hold this against the left hand wall and align it plumb using an accurate spirit level. Using either finish nails or a modern adhesive such as no-nails attach the first board to the stud partition wall behind. When you are sure the board is in the correct position slide the next one onto it’s wooden tongue and using a soft mallet tap it firmly into place, a good tip is at this time to have piece of scrap wood to hand to use as a buffer. Once this second wall board is in place you can then fix it permanently using the secret nailing method. Providing you have sawn the boards to the correct size a small nail can be driven through the inner corner of the boards wooden tongue, at an angle. If you sink the head of this nail with nail punch it will not be visible at all.
When the next board is slid on the nail and its fixing will be hidden. This process is then repeated will all the wooden boards which are to be installed.
