Access Equipment

Suitable Access Equipment

For any working at height task it is now vital that the correct type of access equipment is used.

Where as previously a builder or tradesman would of reached for a pair of ladders this is now not the case due to the ever changing “working at height regulations”. The outline of the new regulations is that the most suitable type of access equipment should be used for the particular work being undertaken and risks associated with it.

Cherry Picker

The recommended way to establish what type of product to use whether it be a powered access platform, a cherry picker, or even a small podium type access step unit is by the completion of a risk assessment and also possibly a method statement.

By doing so this will identify any possible safety risks and allow the tradesman to then make the decision as to what type of equipment to use.

A ”grey” area of this is always going to be the small repair jobs and maintenance work where historically  a single or double ladder would of been used. The regulations may point the roofer or builder to now using for example an aluminium tower. For a homeowner who only requires a few roof tiles replacing what would of been a small repair charge could now escalate into a bill costing several hundred pounds because of the need for the tradesman to use other equipment.

The time element for the repair work to be completed would also be increased due to the extra time taken to assemble and collapse an access tower compared to convential ladders. The only way this could be minimised would be by the use of a self erecting tower such as a razor deck.

A razor deck is a self contained unit which has no seperate components and which can be raised in seconds to several working heights. This makes it ideal for general repair and maintenance work in buildings, shops, warehouses, factories, hotels, schools, hospitals, shopping malls and centres and much more.

It allows safe working whether you are replacing second storey windows in a building, installing a suspended ceiling, or even just putting up extra lighting and decorations in a hotel venue for a wedding or christmas party.

Developed with the new “working at height” regulations in mind this new and vesatile piece of access equipment can now be hired or purchased from several specialist tool and equipment hire companies in the UK.
