Stihl Forestry Equipment

Stihl Chainsaws And Brushcutters

New for 2009 are the latest range of  ”New Generation” Chainsaws and petrol Brushcutters.

To comply with the latest european emission regulations Stihl have taken a close look at their two stroke petrol engined range of chainsaws, brushcutters, and other forestry and landscaping  equipment.

In their range of high quality chainsaws a selection of models have received a makeover including their price entry level models.  Fitting into this category are the popular MS170 chainsaw and the FS38 brushcutter – line strimmer.

Replacing these models are the new improved Stihl MS171 and FS40 models.  Featuring a stratified ignition system both these units produce a lower level of exhaust emissions and enjoy reduced fuel consumptions. Attention has also been given to the Stihl MS171 Chainsaw to reduce operator vibration figures to allow longer working and cutting performance.

Common Features:

New two stroke petrol engines are fitted to the the MS171 and FS40 brushcutter units. The design of these engines is focused on providing improved cutting performance as well as reduced emissions with regards to noise and exhaust fumes.  Both units benfit from a new design of air filtration as well as “clean burn” technology to meet the required standards and retain their positions as the brand leaders for brush cutter and petrol chainsaws.

Chainsaw Safety:

Operator Safety When Using A Stihl Chainsaw

For safe use of a chainsaw the operator should be fit – both mentally and physically. Any people with a disability opting to use a chainsaw, whether it be an electric or petrol version should bear in mind that the tasks undertaken may need to be restricted. This is especially the case if the operator has any of the following conditions:

  • Poor physical strength
  • Reduced vision
  • Reduced alertness
  • Restriction of mobility

In addition any gardeners or forestry workers using a chainsaw in the course of their employment should notify their employer if they are taking prescribed medicine.

Types Of Chainsaws:

There are two types of common professional chainsaws. These are specialist “top handled – or single handle” type saws designed for tree surgery by competent and trained arborists, and “rear handled – conventional” type chain saws.

Conventional chainsaws have the rear handle projecting from the back of the saw and are designed to be used with both hands. This type of saw can be either electric powered or petrol powered – each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Conventional chain saws can be fitted with different sized bars to accomodate different cutting chain lengths. As a general guide the shortest bar should be fitted with matching chain loop to undertake the job in hand.

The majority of saws in the Stihl chainsaw range fall into this category – catering for professional forestry workers, tree surgeons, and gardeners.  Both electric and petrol versions are manufactured and in a wide choice of sizes, power outputs, and cutting capabilities.

Equipment For Food Festivals

Food festivals are amongst the largest events held in the Uk  featuring a celebration of local food and drink.

Typically a food festival includes a wide selection of demonstrations and events with activities including cooking demonstrations, drinks and wine tasting sessions, themed meals, cookery workshops, farmers market and produce sales, and also the demonstration and sales of goods such as catering equipment.

The catering equipment available is usually tailored to the individual event and may feature products such as stoves, hot cupboards, bain maries, fridges, stoves and the like.

General kitchen ware is normally also promoted including storage solutions, cutlery, and crockery lines.

As with other exhibitions a lot of pre – planning goes into each festival hosted with consideration given as to what equipment will be required to make it a success.

Power Generation

If the festival is to be held outdoors – perhaps in one or more marquees then a suitable large power output generator will be needed. This needs to be able to power all lighting, sound systems, and any power take off points which are needed for exhibitors. If any exhibitors also need electric power for electronic equipment such as a computer or point of sale terminal, then the generator chosen needs to have a surge protection feature to prevent damage caused by its power fluctuation surges.

Stand Furniture

Traditionally any exhibitor will display their products or perform demonstrations on a display stand fitted out with appropriate furniture. This usually takes the form of several tables and chairs or a counter type unit fitted with a stove or some form of cooking unit.

Trestle type tables form the bulk of furniture hired for exhibition use as they are easy to transport, relatively light in weight, and also affordable. Available in different sizes and shapes this type of furniture can be adapted for most venues whether needed indoor or outside.

Suitable chairs could be either basic folding seats or if a greater image is required – banquet chairs could be used instead, with colour themed seat pads.
